Articleকাকে বলে কত প্রকার ও কি কি
Article: যে শব্দগুলো Noun এর পূর্বে বসে Noun কে নির্দিষ্ট বা অনির্দিষ্টভাবে বোঝায় তাদেরকে Article বলে । ইংরেজি Grammar এ Article গুলো হচ্ছে A, An,The ।
যে Word কোন ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে নির্দিষ্ট বা অনির্দিষ্টভাবে বুঝায় তাদেরকে Article বলে ।
A, an এবং the কে Article বলে।
Article এর প্রকারভেদ
Article
দুই প্রকার:
- Indefinite Article ( অনির্দিষ্ট পদাশ্রিত নির্দেশক )
- Definite Article ( নির্দিষ্ট পদাশ্রিত নির্দেশক )
Definite Article :
যে Article নির্দিষ্ট কোনো ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা প্রাণীকে নির্দেশ করে তাকে Definite Article বলে। কোনো কিছুকে নির্দিষ্ট করে বোঝাতে Definite Article the ব্যবহূত হয়ে থাকে।
যেমন:
The book is on the table.
The person who came yesterday
is my friend Mr. Jahurul Islam.
Indefinite Article:
যে Article বিশেষ কোনো ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা প্রাণীকে নির্দিষ্টভাবে না বুঝিয়ে অনির্দিষ্ট ব্যক্তি, বস্তু, বা প্রাণীকে বোঝায় তাকে Indefinite Article বলে। A ও An কে Indefinite Article বলে। কোনো কিছুকে অনির্দিষ্ট করে বোঝাতে Indefinite Article ব্যবহূত হয়ে থাকে।
যেমন:
A lion lives in a forest.
I saw a bird sitting on the
wall.
A এবং An-এর ব্যবহার
👉অনির্দিষ্টভাবে কোনও ব্যক্তি, বস্তু অথবা শ্রেণীর কথা বোঝাতে Noun এর আগে a/ an বসে ।
(“A” is
used before a noun that begins with a consonant sound.)
(“An” is generally used before a noun that begins with a vowel sond)
যেখানে Singular noun [একবচনাত্মক বিশেষ্য] আছে যা গণনা করা যায় [one pen, five books ইত্যাদি], যার কথা প্রথম বলা হচ্ছে এবং যার কথা কোনও ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর পরিবর্তে বলা হচ্ছে না তার আগে a/ an দরকার । যা গণনা করা যায়না তার আগে a এবং an-কে ব্যবহার করা যাবে না । a river বলব, কিন্তু a water নয় ।
👉যেখানে কোনও singular noun বা একবচনাত্মক বিশেষ্য কোনও শ্রেণীর প্রতিনিধি তার আগে । যেমন, A cow has horns [অর্থাৎ All cows have horns]।
👉কোনও complement-এর (পরিপূরক বিশেষ্য) আগে । যেমন, He is an actor । তিনি কে বা কি ? an actor (একজন অভিনেতা )।
👉কোনও সংখ্যাবাচক বিশেষ্যর আগে । যেমন, a hundred, a million, a dozen ।
👉 কোনও কিছুর দাম, গতি, অনুপাত ইত্যাদির হার বোঝাতে । যেমন, forty rupees a kilo, seventy kilometres an hour, four times a day ইত্যাদি ।
👉 কোনও রাগ, ক্ষোভ, বিস্ময়, দুঃখ প্রকাশক noun যা গণনা করা যায় তার আগে ।

👉 Mr /Mrs /Miss + surname (পদবি) অথবা পদবি সহ নাম থাকলে তার আগে । যেমন, a Mr Banerji, a Mrs Bose, a John Henry (জনৈক মিঃ ব্যানার্জি, এক মিসেস বোস, জনৈক জন হেনরি) ইত্যাদি ।
কোথায় a/ an ব্যবহার করা যাবে না
👉Plural noun-এর (বহুবচনাত্মক বিশেষ্য) আগে a/ an ব্যবহার করা যাবে না । a boy, a boys নয় । an hour, an hours নয় ।
👉Singular হলেও গণনা করা যায় না এমন noun-এর আগে । যেমন, water, luggage, information, advice ইত্যাদি noun-এর আগে । এক্ষেত্রে আমরা বলতে পারি some water, a piece of luggage, a piece of information/ advice ইত্যাদি ।
👉যদি বলি a black and white cat, তার মানে হল একটা কালো-সাদা রঙের বিড়াল । কিন্তু যদি বলি a black and a white cat, তবে তার মানে হল, দুটো বিড়াল যাদের একটার রঙ কালো আর একটার রঙ সাদা ।
He is a better teacher than administrator.
এই sentence-এ একই ব্যক্তি সম্পর্কে বলা হচ্ছে যে তিনি প্রশাসক হিসেবে যতটা ভালো তার চেয়ে ভালো শিক্ষক হিসেবে।
👉কিন্তু যদি বলি He is a better teacher than an administrator, তাহলে কথাটা দুইজন ব্যক্তি সম্পর্কে বলা হচ্ছে । এর মানে হল, অপর একজন ব্যক্তি প্রশাসক হিসেবে যতটা ভালো হতে পারেন এই ব্যক্তি শিক্ষক হিসেবে তার চেয়েও ভালো ।
A এবং one
👉দুটো word-ই একটা ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে বোঝায় । কিন্তু সব সময় একটার বদলে অপরটাকে ব্যবহার করা যায় না । a tree বলতে যে-কোনও একটা গাছ বোঝায়, কোনও নির্দিষ্ট গাছ নয় । কিন্তু one tree বললে বোঝাবে একটাই গাছ, তার বেশি নয় ।
👉A/ An কে pronoun (সর্বনাম) হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা যায় না, কিন্তু one-কে pronoun হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা যায় । আমরা বলতে পারি One of the boys fell ill, কিন্তু A of the boys… নয় ।
👉কোনও নির্দিষ্ট সময়ে কোনও ঘটনা ঘটেছে এমন বোঝাতে day, week, month ইত্যাদির আগে one ব্যবহার করা হয়, a/ an নয় ।

The এর ব্যবহার
👉যখন নির্দিষ্টভাবে কোনও ব্যক্তি, বস্ত অথবা শ্রেণীর কথা বলা হয় তখন সেই নির্দিষ্ট noun-এর অথবা noun-এর মতো কাজ করে এমন word-এর আগে the বসে । singular noun অথবা plural noun সব ক্ষেত্রেই the ব্যবহার করা হয় ।

is used before specific singular or plural nouns.

is used before a noun that is unique and does not have any alternative to it.)
I saw the man in the street.

যেকোনো gender (লিঙ্গ) এর আগে the বসতে পারে ।
The
girl is going to shop.

👉যা একটাই আছে অথবা একটাই আছে বলে মনে করা হয় তাদের নামের আগে the বসে ।
The
earth moves round the sun.

was clear this morning.

👉যে noun-এর কথা আগে বলা হয়েছে তার কথা পরে আবার বলা হলে স্বাভাবিকভাবেই সেটাকে নির্দিষ্টভাবে উল্লেখ করা হয় ।
I lost
my pen today ; now I see the pen in your pocket.
👉কোনও শব্দসমষ্টি অথবা বাক্যাংশের সাহায্যে কোনও noun-কে নির্দিষ্ট করা হলে তার আগে the বসবে ।
This is
the man I saw in the metro.
I know
the place where the murder was committed.
The
girl in violet will dance now.
👉আগেই জানা আছে এমন কোনও নির্দিষ্ট noun সম্পর্কে বলতে হলে সেই noun এর আগে the দরকার ।
The girl
is standing in the balcony. (এই বাড়ির ব্যালকনি)
Please
pass the salt. ( টেবিলে যে লবণ আছে সেটা)
Go to
the doctor. (যে ডাক্তারকে দেখান হয় তার কাছে)
👉সমগ্র শ্রেণীর প্রতিনিধিত্ব করছে এমন noun-এর আগে the থাকবে ।
The
camel is a gentle animal. [ all camels ]
The dog
is a tame animal. [all dogs]
The
kidney maintains proper water and electrolyte balance. (kidneys)
musical instrument-এর নামের আগে the বসবে ।
Amjad
Ali Khan, Indian classical musician, plays the sarod. (any sarod)
My
sister is learning the sitar. (any sitar)
The violin
is a stringed instrument. (any violin)
👉সর্বাপেক্ষা ভালো, খারাপ, সুন্দর ইত্যাদি বোঝাতে যেসব adjective (বিশেষণ) ব্যবহার করা হয় (superlative degree) তাদের আগে the বসে ।
This is
the oldest tree in this forest.
This is
the best Chinese food I have ever had.
This is
the worst accident I have ever seen.
only-র আগে the বসে ।
I am
the only son of my parents.
He is
the only doctor in this village.
👉দ্বীপপুঞ্জ, পর্বতমালা, সমুদ্র, নদী এবং যেসব দেশের নামের সঙ্গে republic, states, kingdom যুক্ত থাকে তাদের নামের আগে the বসে ।
The

Ganges is the most sacred river to the Hindus.

👉কোনও কোনও adjective শ্রেণীবাচক বিশেষ্যর মতো ব্যবহৃত হয় যেমন dead, poor, rich, disabled, old, middle-aged, young ইত্যাদি । এদের আগে the বসে ।

👉কোনও পরিবার/ বংশকে সামগ্রিকভাবে বোঝাতে পারিবারিক নাম বা পদবির আগে the বসে ।

a/ an/ the নিয়ে উপরে যে আলোচনা করা হল তার মূল কথা হল অনির্দিষ্টভাবে কোনও noun-এর কথা বলা হলে সেই noun-এর আগে a/ an বসে এবং যখন নির্দিষ্টভাবে কোনও noun-এর কথা বলা হয় তখন তার আগে the বসে ।
